Terrell "Terry" Scarbrough

September 29, 1957 — December 26, 2022

Fort Stockton, Texas

Terrell Ray Scarbrough, age 65, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2022 surrounded by family, in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Terry was born on September 29, 1957 to Raymond (Bud) Scarbrough and Jessie Terrell Scarbrough in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was raised in Snyder, Texas and graduated from Snyder High School in 1976.  He then went on to attend Western Texas College where he received an associate degree in criminal justice. He also attended Southwest Texas State University. He began his first career at Texaco production in Fort Stockton, which kickstarted a 14.5-year career prior to becoming a real estate appraiser in the West Texas region for 17 years before retiring. Shortly after starting his career, he met the love of his life, Cary Alexander Scarbrough, and they were happily married for 35 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, and traveling. However, his greatest love was spending time with family and friends. He was an active member of Northside Church. He endured many health obstacles throughout his life and fought valiantly until the end. Those who knew Terry will remember his humor and larger than life personality. There was never a dull moment when you were in Terry’s presence. He kept everyone laughing, even in his last days.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond (Bud) and Jessie Terrell Scarbrough; sister, Barbara Gowin; and niece, Shae Gowin. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Cary Alexander Scarbrough; his two children, Tye Arnett and Lexi Velasquez; son-in-law, Auden Velasquez; and grandchildren, Audrey, Parker, and Carter Velasquez, who knew him fondly as Papa T. He is also survived by his niece, Kara Gowin McKneely and brother-in-law, Bill Gowin.

Graveside services will be led by Pastor Scott Owens and will be held at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton, Texas on January 14, 2023 at 1:00 PM. Pall bearers are Shawn Ragland, Kelly Ragland, Todd Line, and Tommy Ezell. Honorary pall bearers are Brad Stoker, Nick Kennedy, Allan Childs, and Scotty Furman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Twice Blessed House, which provides housing for transplant patients and their families.
