Joseph Anaya of Fort Stockton, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in Allen, Texas at the age of 94 years. He was born on April 15, 1926, to Jose and Joanna Sanders Anaya, in Lake End, Louisiana.
Joe was raised in the Harmon, Louisiana area and left home when he was only 16 years old to work on the Texas/Pacific Railroad. He helped to advance the railroad from Louisiana across Texas for five years before settling in Van Horn, Texas. Joe moved to Fort Stockton, Texas, in 1961 where he served as a master mechanic for multiple dealerships, and eventually the City of Fort Stockton until his retirement in 2003. Joe loved fishing, gardening, carpentry, and watching old western movies and boxing.
Joe is survived by his eight children; Amelia Benavidez and her husband Raymond, Eduardo Holguin and his wife, Tirza, Deacon Danny Holguin and his wife Elma, Anna McRae and her husband Frank, Rudy Holguin and his wife Irma, Sammy Holguin, Melva Tyler and her husband Steve, Jo Ann Frazier and her husband Stephen; his two siblings Consuelo (Connie) Iribarren and Jo Ann Shinavar. Joe is also survived by 28 grandkids and 45 great-grandkids.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Anaya and Joanna Davalos; his wife Amparo Anaya; his son Sylvestre Holguin; and siblings, Martin Davalos and Esperanza Cruz.
His services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Downtown Campus. Burial will follow at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery.
