William “Willie” Errol King, 83 of Imperial, Texas crossed the River Jordan on July 28, 2026 to meet his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. 

Mr. King had been a lifelong resident of Imperial. Born October 30, 1942 to R.D. and Dorris King, he was the eldest of three sons. He graduated from Buena Vista High School in 1961 where he met his high school sweetheart Sherian Sue Edmiston. The two became one on February 14, 1962 and in May the following year would become parents to a daughter, Monique Renee. 

William was never afraid of a hard day’s work. It was instilled into him as a young boy starting with work on his Daddy’s various farms in Pecos County. As a teenager he began working in the oilfields in and around Imperial. Laying pipelines and pouring concrete pumpjack bases BY HAND, well before modern machinery and heavy equipment were used in the Permian Basin. This eventually led to employment with Gulf Oil in 1968. 

Although he worked many long hours in the oilfields, he worked just as hard off the clock. He built the home his family would live in to this day. He built the set of corrals where he raised and worked cattle at the ranch just East of Imperial, until the drought of the 1990’s forced him to sell the herd like many more in and around Pecos County. Everything he built was done to perfection, and anyone who helped him learned how to do it just the same or learned some new words. After 30 years in the oilfields, he retired from Warren Petroleum in 1998. 

He was also a public servant, being a member of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department for over 10 years. In 1980 he was elected to Pecos County Constable Precinct 4. He would hold this position for the next 4 decades becoming a staple in the Imperial community. While being a constable in a largely rural area can bring very mundane calls for service, he greatly enjoyed his tenure. He ESPECIALLY enjoyed helping and guiding the youth of Imperial, keeping them out of trouble and steering them in a better direction when they needed it!!!! 

Upon retirement from his Constable position in 2020, he was recognized by The Texas House of Representatives and the Pecos County Historical Commission as being not only the longest elected official in Pecos County, but the third longest Constable position in the entire State of Texas. Mr. King was an extremely large influence on his fellow law enforcement officers and also to his great nephew, Marshall King who was recently elected to the very constable position Mr. King held all those years. 

One of his most favorite places on this earth was the Big Bend area, more specifically Adams Ranch on the Rio Grande. For more than 50 years, his family and countless friends would take fishing trips there. These were more than fishing trips to him; they were a direct blessing from God. To see God’s beautiful creation of Boquillas Canyon and enjoy time with family and friends made it so special to him, even if the fish weren’t biting. 

Mr. King is preceded in death by his parents, R.D. and Dorris King, his brother Bruce King, two nieces Shelly Kay and Carol Dean King, and nephew Monty King. T

hose he leaves “TO GATHER AT THE RIVER” include; his wife of 64 years, Sherian King, daughter Monique Bowles, grandson Chet and wife Karah Bowles, great grandsons Camden and Stetson Bowles, brother Marvin and wife L’Jean King, sister-in-law Jeannie King, 8 nieces and nephews, and multiple great nieces and nephews. A multitude of friends, and the uncountable acquaintances he made in the Law Enforcement community.

 Pallbearers include; Chet Bowles, Bill King, Trampas Yoder, Joe Daniels, Kenneth Heritage, Daniel Joseph, honorary pallbearers Camden Bowles and Stetson Bowles. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you make a monetary donation to the West Texas Boys Ranch or a cancer research center of your choice.

Funeral Service will be on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Buena Vista Auditorium located at 404 W. FM 11 in Imperial, TX with burial following at the Imperial Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend.
