Reta Sage

January 10, 1931 — February 25, 2016

LoReta "Reta" Binion Sage of Colleyville, Texas passed away Thursday, February 25th, 2016, in Bedford Texas at the age of 85. Reta was born on January 10, 1931, to W.R. and Paulen Binion and was born and raised in Fort Stockton. She attended Fort Stockton schools, Hardin Simmons University and later San Angelo State University. She and her husband Paul Smetak had two children, Charles Edward and Desiree. She helped to establish the first Republican Primary in Pecos County. She was very active in Girl Scouts and served in various capacities including Day Camp director. She enjoyed her employment at the John Deere dealership and Pecos Big Bend Oil Co. She married long time farmer, Wilbur Sage. In 1981, they moved to San Angelo where she remained active in the Republican Party. She became a life member of Texas State Garden Clubs and was an accredited flower show judge and landscape design critic. While employed by the Fox TV Station, she starred in a series of commercials as "Great Granny" which won several awards. She served on various boards including the Senior Services Advisory Board and Board of Directors for the Civic Theatre. She was recognized by the Waterlily Collection in Civic League Park with a waterlily named for her. She was an active member of the Baptist church in each area where she lived.

Reta is survived by her son: Charles E. Sage of Pagosa Springs Co; her daughter: Desiree Sage of Colleyville, Texas; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Reta is preceded in death by her husband; Wilbur Sage; parents: W.R. "Bill" Binion and Paulen Pullen Binion; sister, Billie Rae Owen; and brother, Howard Binion.
There will be a graveside service on Saturday, March 5, 2016, starting at 11am at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the West Texas Boys Ranch, San Angelo, Texas Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at: www.heritagefuneralhomeofthebigbend.com
