It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rafael Hernandez, age 38, of Fort Stockton, Texas, who departed this life on December 23, 2025. Born on July 4, 1987, in Boquillas del Carmen, Coahuila, Rafael was the beloved son of Hernán and Francisca (Diaz) Hernandez. On July 12, 2014, he wed his lifelong friend, Nancy Ontiveros, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a spirited partnership filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Known affectionately as Rafa, Tomate, or Guero, he touched the lives of many with his warm heart and selfless nature. Rafael was a devoted husband and a loving father, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a moment of joy. His unwavering work ethic and passion for his animals endeared him to all who knew him. In his leisure time, he enjoyed simple pleasures such as gaming, watching anime, and fishing-activities that brought him peace and happiness.
Rafael is remembered lovingly by his family, including his wife, Nancy, and his children: Bradley, Brandon, and Briana, . He is also survived by his father, Hernan Hernandez; his siblings: Francisca Patlan (Abraham), Juan A. Hernandez (Cynthia), Hernan Diaz Hernandez (Elsa), Sergio Hernandez (Maria), Hector Hernandez (Analiza), Sandra Hernandez, Elisa Hernandez, and Eduardo Hernandez; as well as his cherished grandparents, Maria Ureste Hernandez and Demetrio Diaz Brito, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who will continue to honor his memory.
Rafael was preceded in death by several beloved family members, including his cherished mother, Francisca, and his beautiful daughter, Anahi, whose absence he carried with him throughout his life.
The family invites all who knew and loved Rafael to join in celebrating his life and legacy. A public viewing will take place at Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend Chapel on December 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM, followed by a Rosary service at 7:00 PM that same evening. A Mass in Rafael's honor will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on December 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM, leading to his graveside service and burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at 11:30 AM.
As we gather to remember Rafael, let us hold close the love he shared and the indelible mark he left on our lives. Though he is no longer physically with us, his spirit and love will continue to fill our hearts.
Pallbearers will include Hernan Hernandez, Hernan Diaz Hernandez, Eduardo Hernandez, Hector Hernandez, Sergio Hernandez, Juan Antonio Hernandez, Bradley Ontiveros, and Hernan Rios Hernandez.
Rafael Hernandez will forever be remembered for his heart of gold, and the lives he enriched will carry forward his remarkable legacy of kindness, compassion, and love.
