Rachel Turner

January 11, 1934 — December 7, 2018

Rachel Turner of Fort Stockton passed away Friday, December 7, 2018, in Fort Stockton at the age of 84 years. She was born on January 11, 1934, to L.W. and Nannie Mae Mayfield in Alpine, Texas.
Rachel married Richard Turner on February 28, 1953 in Del Rio, Tx. They made their home in Fort Stockton and raised their family. "Nana" as many knew, was a God-fearing woman and a faithful member of First Christian Church. She worked for Pecos County State Bank and Clayton Williams Co. before retiring. She loved life on the ranch with her family and animals. Nana enjoyed reading and had a huge library of her own, so she could read everything twice to make sure she didn't miss anything. Nana's other hobbies included crafting, gardening, cooking, and being the entertainment amongst her family and friends. Rachel was always the life of the party with her infectious laugh and she was well known as the "Hostess with the Mostest." For holidays, Nana was always sure to make plenty of room around the table for our traditional card games. Multiple times a month, you'd be able to find her playing Bridge with her two local clubs. Above all, Nana took the most pride in loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rachel is survived by her husband of 65 years, Richard Turner; daughters, Cindy Turner of San Angelo, Nanette Johnson and husband Brent of San Angelo; daughter-in-law, Susie Turner of Georgetown; brother, Martin Mayfield; grandchildren, Marlissa Byrd, Heather Hicks, Michael Turner, Scott Turner, Blake Turner; Kobi Byrd, Morgan Hicks, Clair Hicks, Danny Valenzuela, Jaci Valenzuela, Carson Turner, Clayton Turner, and Annaleigh Turner; niece Mariah Mayfield.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents and her son Clayton Turner.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 9th from 1:00-2:30 P.M. at First Christian Church with the funeral beginning at 3:00 P.M. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton, Texas. Pall Bearers are Macky Turner, Powell Tarter, Rich Murphree, Jerry Fathree, Jerry McGuirt, and Rex Carpenter. Honorary Pall Bearers are Roy Smith, Harlan Lambert, Andrew Franco, Ben Arimas, and James Valenzuela. In lieu of flowers please make donations to First Christian Church or Pecos County Memorial Hospice.
