Pat Mayfield

January 6, 1921 — August 28, 2020

Our hearts are joined with yours in mourning the passing of Pat H. Mayfield, beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, teacher and friend. Pat was born in Roby, TX on January 6, 1921, the youngest child of Thomas H Mayfield and Maud Hickerson Mayfield. He peacefully entered into his heavenly rest on August 28, 2020.

After High School, Pat attended North Texas State Teacher’s College in Denton, TX and Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. In June 1943, Pat enlisted into the U.S. Naval Service and was commissioned seven months later after attending Notre Dame, Midshipmen’s School. As others, he served his country during World War II, in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and specifically the Philippine Liberation as a Boat Officer on the USS Alshain. We are grateful for his service.

Pat married the love of his life, Aleatha M. Liles in May of 1945. She preceded him in death June 19th of this year. They were married 74 years. They chose to live in Ft Stockton becoming lifelong residents and taught in the school district for over 30 years. Being members of many organizations and clubs throughout the area they met and made friends with many people. Pat often said, “We traveled all over the world, had wonderful families and friends and had a good life”.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Joy Powell of San Angelo, TX, who is also his “second mother” being almost 8 years old when “Brother Pat” was born. Mary Joy has many special memories of their siblings and times growing up together and only as an older sister can she knew and loved him well.

Also, special friends, Delmon and Vida Hodges and family, David and Ann Shelton, and many others are quick to tell stories of their good times, adventures, and lifelong memories. You were there to love and support each other.

Aleatha and Pat leave behind many nieces and nephews who remember them well as their glamorous aunt and uncle who laughed, lived, and loved. We still feel their attention and devotion to us.

And last, but not least, their little dog Sissy, who sees all and knows all. May their memories always be for a blessing to those who love them!

Thank you, Lord, for sharing their lives with us. Please, keep them in your constant care.
