Nestor Nanez Calderon peacefully passed on January 26, 2022. Born in Fort Stockton in 1924, he was 97 years and 11 months. Nestor worked in many trades including the Civilian Conservation Corp in the Fort Davis Mountains, working on a cattle ranch during World War II to help feed the military and finally found his calling as a custom home contractor. He used that knowledge to help build 3 Catholic Churches in Seminole, Seagraves, and Plains, Texas, and received Papa Commendation for his dedication.
Nestor was an honest, sincere, hard-working husband, father, and mentor to many. He was preceded in death by his wife Ophelia, his son Ray Calderon, grandson Joseph Calderon and great-grandson Jace Rowan.
He is survived by his son Cal Calderon, Jr., and wife Tamara; grandson Michael Calderon and wife Brandy; granddaughter Jill Rowan and husband Joey. His 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Rosary will be Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 9:30 AM at Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend. Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic, with burial at Fort Stockton Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sam Calderon, Joe Molina, Larry Rea, and Joe Calderon.
