In Loving Memory of George Leyva

George Leyva passed away on July 19, 2026, after a five-year battle with lung cancer. Born on January 12, 1961, in Fort Stockton, Texas, George lived a life defined by service, kindness, and an unwavering love for his family, friends, and community.

George proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Fort Stockton, dedicating his time to protecting and serving others. He also found great joy in refereeing youth football and basketball games, where he was respected for his fairness, patience, and encouragement of young athletes. George retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice with 20+ years of service.

After his retirement, George joined Pecos County Precinct 1, where he had the privilege of working alongside friends and fellow golf enthusiasts. The game of golf was one of his greatest passions, but even more meaningful were the lifelong friendships it fostered. He cherished the camaraderie, laughter, and countless memories shared both on and off the course.Our family extends our heartfelt gratitude to everyone with Pecos County Precinct 1, his friends and his coworkers for the unwavering kindness, encouragement, and support they showed George throughout his illness. Their generosity, including supporting a golf fundraiser in his honor, was a profound expression of friendship and compassion that will never be forgotten. George is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christina Leyva, and his parents, Jose and Anita Leyva.

He is survived by his brother, Julian Leyva (Selvia); his sisters, Angie Quiroz and Ermelinda Munoz (Mike); his daughters, Lyza Carrillo (Jacob) and Sierra Leach; his stepdaughters, Jessica George (James), Jennifer Hughes, Jackie Leach, and Joanna Urias (Jose); seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Pallbearers are Saul Anguiano, JJ Leyva, Paul Casillas, Thomas Rodriguez, Nathan Reeves and Gilbert Ortiz. Honorary pallbearers are Eddie Urias, Joe Ray Chavez, Ronnie Chavez, Duvan Casillas and Francisco Ramirez. 

A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home. Rosary will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2026, at 10:00am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, followed by interment at Saint Joseph Cemetery.

George's legacy of service, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. It is the relationships with family and friends he cherished most. His laughter, generous spirit, and genuine compassion will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
