Doris Lee Everett

Doris Lee Trowbridge Everett went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at the age of 76. Doris was known for her compassion and ability to listen to others when they shared their joys, frustrations, and struggles. She was born on September 7, 1949 to Dalton & Leona Trowbridge in Brownwood, Texas. She grew up in several West Texas towns but claimed Rankin as her hometown. She graduated from Rankin High School in 1968. During high school she enjoyed playing basketball, attending church, and showing her Southdown sheep, and even claiming the title of Grand Champion for Upton County. After high school, she moved to Fort Stockton and worked at Taylor’s Cafe where she met Dub Everett. They were married on July 4, 1969 in Fort Stockton, Texas at Northside Baptist Church. After studying the Bible together and with Joe Stout, Dub & Doris obeyed the Gospel and were baptized into Christ in 1973. Doris attended college at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and graduated in May of 1973 with a degree in Elementary Education. She also received her Master’s degree in Elementary Education and Counseling, both from Sul Ross University. She taught junior high in Balmorhea for 2 years, then made the decision to stay home and raise her children in Fort Stockton. Once Audrey and Josh were both in school, Doris substituted and eventually taught third grade at Apache Elementary in Fort Stockton. She also was the campus counselor at Apache Elementary and was a counselor at Fort Stockton Middle School. After 32 years in the public education profession, Doris retired in 2015 and enjoyed spending time at home, spending time with family, and traveling. She volunteered as the church secretary at the Fort Stockton church of Christ with a servant’s heart for almost 7 years. Doris was always involved in church activities and strived to teach the Gospel to others throughout her 56 year marriage since becoming at Christian. She taught children’s bible class, helped with Ladies’ Days, coordinated Vacations Bible Schools, recruited children’s bible class teachers and helped organize bible class curriculum. She and Dub consistently attended worship services and are faithful examples. She believed strongly in the message of the Bible and the New Testament to bring souls to heaven: hear, believe, repent, confess, be immersed or baptized, and remain faithful unto death. Doris was known for her boundless kindness, quick wit, and unwavering dedication to those she loved. Doris enjoyed gardening and growing plants in her yard that were shared with her from friends and family. Doris had many friends that she lovingly sustained friendships with over the years from church and school. She cherished these friendships and thoroughly enjoyed catching up with her friends.

One of the greatest joys in her life was her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Dub, for 56 years & 11 months, a loving mother to her daughter Audrey & husband Alan, and to her son Josh. She was a proud ‘Meme’ to Andrew Levi Black, Kyle Wytten Everett, and Kate Montgomery Everett. She is also survived by: her sisters Etta Maraggia & Carol Hunt, her sister in law Dean Everett, her brother in law Bill Everett and wife Teresa, Pat Everett Kring, Janie Everett, and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her younger brother David at the age of 13, her mother Leona, her father Dalton, and several sister in laws and brother in laws. 

Her life was a declaration of her dedication to Christ: through teaching God’s word, compassion for listening to others, being thankful for joy in simple moments especially when she struggled with her health the last few years of her earthly life without complaining. Her family, friends, students, and coworkers will miss her compassion and caring nature, but she will be remembered for the love she had for the Lord and the people in her life.

There will be a visitation at Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend on Monday, June 8th from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Doris’ graveside service will be on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at East Hill Cemetery in Fort Stockton. Her family would like to thank Dr. Young and her staff, the Pecos County Memorial Hospital staff and ER staff, the staff at Methodist Transplant and Speciality Hospital in San Antonio, and especially the Heart to Heart Hospice House in San Antonio.
