Tilden Garner Stewart of Fort Stockton, Texas passed away Saturday, August 31st, 2019, at the age of 85. He was born on April 30, 1934 in Junction, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Avery Steward; mother, Gracie Wood Stewart; brothers Ray Allen Stewart and Lloyd Wood Stewart.
Tilden is survived by his wife, Nancy Freeman Stewart; sons Thomas Avery Stewart and spouse, Beverley A. Stewart; Mark Lloyd Stewart and spouse, Tina Weissenburg; David Ray Stewart and spouse, Cathy Stewart. His daughters include Susan Stewart Taylor and spouse Natalie A. Taylor. Grandchildren are Heather Stewart Boyer, Christopher Thomas Stewart, Aaron Gabriel Stewart, Cortney Stewart Pease, Megan Ly Stewart, and Hannah Stewart Clayton. Great Grandchildren include McKinley Bledsaw, Adalynn Lorayne Clayton, and Wendy Nancy Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was born and raised in Junction, Texas. He was a well- loved family member of the Stewart and Wood families. He spent 2 years in the Army where he was stationed in Germany. He attended college at Texas A&M and Tarleton State University. He went to work for the Texas Highway Dept. in January 1963 in Sanderson, Texas. He met his wife, Nancy, in March 1963 and they married in August 1963. They were married 56 years and 3 days. They have four children, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was a life long scout and lived by those values.
Services will held at 2PM on Friday September 6th, 2019 , at the Church of Christ, 2100 W. 16th, in Fort Stockton, Texas. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery in Junction, Texas.
